Digital Storytelling - An Exciting Opportunity for Tutors

Hello Tutors

It was great to see so many of you at the Tutor Thank You Lunch. I hope you enjoyed it.

Anyhow, something new coming up. We applied for and got a New Horizons Grant for Seniors. We are going to be teaching digital storytelling to seniors.

Never heard of it? Well here is how it works. We are going to do this three time in the year before the end of next March.

Seniors sign up with us to create a digital story. That is a short little story that goes on the computer. It has a storyline and is read by the senior and accompanied by images and music. These are great little memoirs.  Here is an example of one:

The first opportunity to volunteer in this program starts in May. We want tutors who are comfortable with the computer. The job is to sit beside the senior as he or she works on their digital story and help them with basic computer skills.

May 10 we have a general introduction for everyone learners and tutors.

Then in May the seniors go off and learn how to write a script for their memoirs.

Then we need the volunteers back in June, June 7, 14, 21 and 28 Saturday mornings to help the seniors. In each of these sessions we will have a teacher to teach the whole group and we need a computer tutor for each learner. You would be in more of a supporting role with the learner.

If you want to know more about this opportunity please contact me at call@prepsociety.org

It will be a fun and exciting project and you will learn about how to make digital stories (something you might choose to do for yourself in the future)

Thanks
